On May 22, 2025, the Exchange Meeting between the School of Cognitive Science and Technology, Nanjing University and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research Center, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia was successfully held in the Conference Room 530, East District of Nanyong Building. Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai, the Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research Center (CAIRO) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Systems at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), visited our school for exchange and discussion.
The purpose of this meeting is to deepen the international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence between the two sides and to explore new paths for future scientific research and educational collaboration. Attending the meeting were Yi Zili, Associate Professor of the School of Cognitive Science and Technology, Long Xiaoxiao, Bing Zhenshan, Zhu Hao, and Fang Yuqi, who are respectively quasi-tenure-track Associate Professors and quasi-tenure-track Assistant Professors. The meeting was chaired by Fang Yuqi.
Fang Yuqi, on behalf of the School of Cognitive Science and Technology, extended a sincere welcome to Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai for his visit and exchange. She also provided a detailed introduction to the school's achievements and development plans in the areas of discipline construction, faculty team, and scientific research results. She mentioned that the school currently has five cutting-edge research directions: Brain-inspired Intelligence, General Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, Embodied Intelligence, and Scientific Intelligence. Subsequently, she elaborated on the research achievements of the faculty in each direction and further expressed the hope that both sides could establish a good cooperative relationship through exchanges. This would further enhance the quality of the School of Cognitive Science and Technology's open education and broaden new paths for international exchanges and talent cultivation.
Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai focused on introducing several cooperation projects and funding programs between China and Malaysia in the fields of scientific research and education. He emphasized the three major channels of scientific research cooperation between the two sides and mentioned that China and Malaysia have had many in-depth cooperations in scientific research innovation and education in the past. He expressed his expectation that this exchange will promote and deepen the cooperation between the two sides and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
Subsequently, teachers from our school, Yi Zili, Long Xiaoxiao, Bing Zhenshan, and Zhu Hao, introduced their respective research work one by one. The two sides then engaged in an enthusiastic discussion on potential directions for scientific research cooperation.
It is reported that Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai is a senior scholar in the field of artificial intelligence, with research expertise covering generative artificial intelligence, deep learning, machine learning, brain-computer interfaces, and computer vision. During his visit, Associate Professor Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai also delivered an academic lecture titled “Starting from a Small Beginning: Promoting the Development of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics through the University's Third Mission” in the afternoon of the same day, in Room 410, West District of Nanyong Building, to a wide audience of teachers and students at the Suzhou Campus.
